Ambassador Cruises 2027: what's included and is it good value?
Ambassador's ordinary fare covers your cabin, main meals and entertainment. Ambassador Fare adds the Premium Drinks Package, gratuities and first choice of dinner sitting (category-guarantee bookings have separate allocation conditions). Bought separately at the current published advance rate for cruises of 5 to 29 nights, Premium would add £349.65 per person for seven nights, or £699.30 for two adults.
Saver or Ambassador Fare?
Choose Saver if you prefer to pay separately for drinks and other extras. Consider Ambassador Fare if everyone in the cabin wants Premium drinks and you value its first choice of dinner sitting. Gratuities come with both Ambassador Fare and a drinks package, so count them once.
What is the catch?
Everyone in the cabin must take the same package for the whole cruise. If you want different things, compare the combined cost before you commit.
For British holidaymakers, the departure port can matter as much as the fare. Joining in Newcastle, Dundee or Liverpool could save a long journey to Southampton and leave more to spend on the holiday. This is independent research, not a recent onboard review.
What makes Ambassador different for British travellers?
Your nearest port may matter more than a fare discount
Ambassador's published UK departure network includes Tilbury, Bristol Royal Portbury, Portsmouth, Liverpool, Newcastle, Dundee and Belfast. Not every destination sails from every port.
Add the rail tickets, fuel, parking and hotel each departure would need. A slightly higher fare can still make a cheaper holiday. Sailing from Britain can also mean more days at sea than flying to the cruising region, so look at the itinerary and ask whether those sea days are part of the pleasure.
Ship size and age
Ambassador began sailing in 2022. Its principal UK no-fly ships are older, refurbished vessels.
Ambience and Ambition normally welcome guests aged 18 and over, with advertised multigenerational exceptions. Renaissance, which sails Caribbean fly-cruises, welcomes families. A child-free holiday depends on the departure, not simply the brand. See the age policy.
A familiar British holiday at sea
Onboard spending is in pounds sterling. Afternoon tea, quizzes, shows and formal evenings suit a traditional cruise routine. Dinner normally has two sittings, and multigenerational departures use open sittings. See the dining guidance.
What is included in an Ambassador cruise?
Both fares cover the following essentials. Speciality restaurants are optional extras.
| Part of the holiday | Included as standard |
|---|---|
| Accommodation | Your booked cabin category |
| Meals | Breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner in included venues |
| Entertainment | Included shows and daily activities |
| Leisure | Gym, pool and hot tubs |
| Arrival | Luggage porterage from port to cabin |
| Port charges | Port taxes, fees and charges |
Thermal facilities on Ambition
Ambition includes thermal-suite access to sauna, steam and relaxation rooms. Treatments cost extra.
Saver Fare or Ambassador Fare?
Compare Saver and Ambassador Fare for the same cabin and departure. The standard benefits differ as follows.
| Feature | Saver Fare | Ambassador Fare |
|---|---|---|
| Accommodation, main meals and included entertainment | Included | Included |
| Premium Drinks Package | Bought separately | Included |
| Nightly crew gratuities | Added each night unless you buy a drinks package, which includes them | Included |
| Dinner sitting | A preference can be requested; it is not guaranteed | First choice of sitting advertised with the fare |
| Wi-Fi | Bought separately | Bought separately |
| Speciality dining | Bought separately | Bought separately |

Standalone drinks packages include gratuities
Ambassador's FAQ says: "If you purchase one of our Ambassador Drinks Packages, gratuities are also included." Its what's-included page says the same of Ambassador Fare. Count gratuities once: do not add the £7 nightly crew charge to either.
How to compare the two prices
Ambassador advertises a 15% discount on Premium drinks when you choose Ambassador Fare at initial booking. That compares with buying the package, not with buying the occasional drink.
Use your two fare quotations:
- 1. Subtract the Saver price from the Ambassador Fare price for the same cabin and sailing. That is the extra you pay upfront.
- 2. Add what you would buy on Saver: a drinks package, or individual drinks plus the nightly crew charge if you buy no package.
- 3. Count gratuities once. A package and Ambassador Fare both include them.
- 4. Compare the amounts, then decide what the dinner-sitting benefit is worth to you.
Leave Wi-Fi and speciality dining out of the difference if you would buy the same with either fare. They still belong in your overall budget.
Adding drinks later is a different decision
You can add a drinks package through My Ambassador Sailing before departure. That does not add the dinner-sitting benefit of Ambassador Fare.
Choose the fare when you book. Ambassador says Ambassador Fare is selected at the point of booking, and that its drinks saving applies only if you take it at initial booking.
Which drinks package suits your holiday?
| Package | Former name | Main coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Non-Alcoholic | Experience | Soft drinks, selected juices, mocktails and water by the glass |
| Classic | Explorer | Adds house wines, house spirits and selected beers, ciders and cocktails; 50% off premium bar choices |
| Premium | Expedition | Wider premium selection, speciality coffees and premium teas |
Bottled water, cabin water and minibar purchases are excluded. The package details and menu key show which choices are covered.
Ambassador drinks packages: seven-night costs
Everyone in the cabin must take the same package. These are Ambassador's current advance prices for cruises of 5 to 29 nights, added to the fare. A solo traveller pays the per-person figure.
| Package | Per person, per night | Seven nights, per person | Seven nights, two adults |
|---|---|---|---|
| Non-Alcoholic | £20.95 | £146.65 | £293.30 |
| Classic | £42.95 | £300.65 | £601.30 |
| Premium | £49.95 | £349.65 | £699.30 |
Source: Ambassador's published tariff, read 23 October 2026. These are Ambassador's current published rates for 5 to 29-night cruises, not a quote for a particular 2027 departure. The seven-night totals are our arithmetic.
Premium costs £49 more than Classic per person over seven nights, or £98 for two adults. That is the extra price for the wider drinks selection and speciality hot drinks. If both of you want Premium, compare the Ambassador Fare price before buying it separately.
Purchase and cancellation rules
The advance deadline is seven days before sailing, and onboard purchases must be made within 24 hours of boarding. The onboard price is higher: Premium is £55.95 per person per night. Cancelling within 14 days of departure loses the package payment. Orders are one drink at a time, at least 15 minutes apart, and packages exclude disembarkation-day drinks.
See the package terms. The adult prices above do not cover children's arrangements on family departures.
What costs extra?
Allow for these expenses alongside the fare.
| Extra | What to budget for |
|---|---|
| Drinks | Individual purchases on Saver, or a standalone package; Premium is included with Ambassador Fare |
| Crew gratuities | The nightly charge on Saver if you buy no package; included with a package and with Ambassador Fare |
| Internet | A paid package unless an offer includes it |
| Speciality dining | Venue and supplement for your ship |
| Days ashore | Excursions, transport, admission charges and meals |
| Travel to the ship | Rail or fuel, parking, transfers and any hotel |
| Personal spending | Spa, laundry, shopping and other purchases |
Ambassador's FAQ publishes automatic gratuities of £7 per person per night, or £6 on cruises of 16 nights or more, where they are not included. Over seven nights that is £49 per person, or £98 for two adults.
What about Wi-Fi?
For sailings of 5 to 29 nights, whole-sailing Basic, Value and Premium internet plans cost £8, £10 and £15 per day, bought on board. Ambassador says a whole-sailing plan bought in the first 24 hours of the cruise gives the best daily value, and longer cruises have lower daily rates.
Basic covers email and messaging. Value adds browsing and social media. Premium adds video calls and standard-definition streaming. Over seven nights the plans come to £56, £70 or £105. Satellite performance can vary, even with Starlink. See Ambassador's Wi-Fi information and our cruise Wi-Fi guide.
What to check before you book
Cabin allocation and obstructed views
With a guarantee booking, Ambassador allocates your cabin. Its FAQ warns that even a higher allocated grade can have an obstructed view or sit on a lower deck.
Fare benefits do not promise a chosen cabin number, and category-guarantee bookings are treated differently. Clause 17 of the terms says the dinner sitting and table size "will be assigned and confirmed once on board", cabin numbers are allocated before sailing, and no cabin upgrades are offered. Do not assume the fare table's first choice of sitting applies to a guarantee booking unless your offer says so in terms.
If noise, lift access or an uninterrupted view matters, compare a chosen cabin. Use its deck position and bathroom photographs to judge suitability.
Mobility and getting ashore
Standard bathrooms can have raised thresholds or bathtubs. Ambassador's mobility policy lists only two adapted cabins on Ambition and says adapted cabins cannot be allocated for solo travel.
At tender ports, passengers must stand and walk a short distance independently or with a companion's assistance. Arrange cabin suitability and equipment approval before paying.
The satisfaction guarantee has a short deadline
The Ambassador Guarantee covers eligible first-time guests on qualifying Ambience or Ambition cruises of at least four nights. Tell the Hotel Director within 24 hours of embarkation that you intend to leave and why. The team then has 24 hours to try to resolve matters.
If no solution is agreed, Ambassador pays for transport back to your embarkation point from the next available port, choosing the transport and covering one hotel night if needed. It refunds the cruise fare paid and pro-rated drinks-package costs.
Personal onboard spending, port parking and your original journey to the terminal are excluded. Caribbean fly-cruises and festive events do not qualify. The guarantee does not replace the pre-departure cancellation policy.
Cancelling before departure
Under the standard cancellation terms, cancelling 91 days or more before departure loses the full deposit. Charges rise to 60% at 57 to 90 days, 75% at 42 to 56 days, 85% at 15 to 41 days and 100% within 14 days. Additional non-refundable elements can increase the loss, and specified charter cruises have different terms. A small deposit is not the limit of your later cancellation liability.
Useful benefits for solo travellers
Ambassador offers single cabins in selected grades, reduced- or no-supplement offers on some departures, and hosted solo gatherings on cruises of six nights or more. Compare the total solo quote, not the advertised fare per person sharing. See its solo-cruise information.
Ambassador or Fred. Olsen, P&O or Marella?
Fred. Olsen is the closest comparison in traditional smaller-ship cruising style. P&O and Marella are also useful price comparisons because they include different amounts of onboard spending. Match dates, duration, cabin and travel arrangements.
| Alternative | Why compare it? | What to put beside the Ambassador quote |
|---|---|---|
| Fred. Olsen | Another option for smaller-ship, traditional cruising | Gratuities are included with Freedom and Saver. Freedom also includes selected drinks with lunch and dinner |
| P&O Cruises | A British-market alternative across different ships | Tips are included in ordinary fares; optional all-inclusive bundles combine drinks, Wi-Fi and dining credit |
| Marella | Particularly relevant to a Caribbean fly-cruise | Standard selected drinks and tips are included; specified UK fly-cruise packages also include flights and transfers |
For Fred. Olsen, use its Freedom and Saver fare comparison and our Fred. Olsen drinks package guide. Our P&O fares and all-inclusive guide explains its fare and package choices, and the Marella Standard and Premium guide covers upgrading drinks that are already included. For guests aged 50 and over, Saga's fare includes drinks, speciality dining, an excursion in every port and a chauffeur to the ship; see our Saga guide.
A regional departure may favour Ambassador, while Marella's included drinks may suit another couple better. Compare the actual P&O ship, and keep Fred. Olsen's Freedom benefits apart from Saver.
Is Ambassador good value? Our verdict
Choose Ambassador if its traditional style appeals and the regional departure makes your holiday easier or less expensive.
| Worth considering if... | Compare carefully if... |
|---|---|
| A regional departure makes your journey easier | You would still face a costly journey to the ship |
| You enjoy traditional dining and entertainment | You want extensive choice and flexible evenings |
| You are comfortable choosing a refurbished older ship | A newer cabin and bathroom are priorities |
| The total fare suits the extras you want | Cabinmates want different drinks arrangements |
Saver suits travellers who want to pay separately for their extras. Ambassador Fare deserves a closer look if both cabinmates want Premium drinks and value first choice of dinner sitting. Add the journey to the port to both totals before deciding.
How we checked
We read Ambassador's fare page, drinks packages page, FAQ and terms and conditions in a browser on 23 October 2026. The seven-night totals and package differences are our arithmetic from the published per-night rates. Ambassador is not in our calculator. See our methodology.
