Privacy Policy

CruiseClarify is built to be useful without being nosy. We collect as little personal data as we can, we don’t run ads or sell anything, and we never sell or rent your information. This page explains, in plain terms, what we collect, why, and the rights you have under the EU/EEA General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who is responsible for your data

CruiseClarify is an independent site operated by a private individual based in Norway. For data-protection purposes, that operator is the “data controller”. You can reach us at info@cruiseclarify.com for anything in this policy.

2. What we collect — and what we don’t

We only collect personal data in a few specific situations:

Anonymous visitor statistics. We use Fathom Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. Fathom is privacy-friendly: it sets no tracking cookies and does not collect information that identifies you personally. We see aggregate, anonymous trends — not individual people.
Your email address, if you choose to subscribe. If you sign up for cost-change alerts and updates, we store the email address you give us so we can send those emails. That’s the only field we ask for.
What you send us, if you email us. If you contact info@cruiseclarify.com, we keep your message and address only to reply and to handle your request.

The cruise cost calculator runs in your browser. The figures you enter are not sent to us or stored on our servers.

3. Why we’re allowed to do this (legal basis)

Under the GDPR we rely on:

Your consent for the email newsletter. You actively sign up, and you can withdraw at any time (see below). To confirm it’s really you, we use double opt-in: after you submit the form, we email you a link to confirm before you’re added.
Our legitimate interest in understanding, in aggregate, how the site is used — met through privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics that don’t identify you.
Your consent and our legitimate interest in replying when you email us.

4. The services that help us run the site

We use a small number of trusted providers who process data on our behalf:

Kit (formerly ConvertKit) — stores our newsletter list and sends the emails. Your address is held in Kit when you subscribe.
Fathom Analytics — our cookie-free, anonymous visitor statistics.
Netlify — hosts the website and serves its pages.

These providers are based outside the EEA (for example in the United States or Canada). Where your data is transferred outside the EEA, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the providers’ standard contractual clauses and data-processing agreements. We do not sell or share your data with anyone for their own marketing.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your email address for as long as you stay subscribed. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, we remove it from our active list. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to deal with your query. Fathom’s statistics are anonymous and aren’t tied to you.

6. Your rights under the GDPR

You have the right to:

ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy;
have inaccurate data corrected;
have your data deleted (“the right to be forgotten”);
withdraw your consent at any time;
object to, or ask us to restrict, certain processing;
ask for your data in a portable format.

To exercise any of these, email info@cruiseclarify.com and we’ll respond. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) or your local EU/EEA supervisory authority.

7. Unsubscribing

Every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom — one click and you’re off the list. You can also email us and we’ll remove you.

8. Cookies

We don’t use tracking or advertising cookies. Our analytics are cookie-free. Any storage used is the minimum your browser needs for the site and calculator to work.

9. Children

CruiseClarify is intended for adults planning travel and is not directed at children. We don’t knowingly collect data from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. The “Last updated” date above always shows the current version.
